Some books I've recently read, enjoyed and reviewed.

I make a point of posting reviews of the books I read, if possible on Amazon and Goodreads. I always try to phrase them in the way I might describe the book in a conversation, rather than write a critique or anything "literary". Though, to be perfectly honest, the chances of me doing anything literary aren't worth worrying about...

My "star" ratings are a measure of how much I enjoyed the story, which combines my feelings about the writing, plot, characters, dialogue, settings, descriptions etc.

I have given poor ratings on occasion, but always with constructive comments. If a book really doesn't get my attention, or l find I just don't like it, I won't bother finishing it. There are so many good stories out there, waiting for me. Why waste time on one I'm not enjoying?

I know how much a review can mean to a writer. Just knowing that someone enjoyed the story is great, but it's even better if they went to the trouble of posting reviews. A simple comment really could make them feel like they're walking on air for days to come!

So please post a review of a book you enjoyed - it only takes a couple of minutes.

Rescue Me
Cynthia Noble

I gave this four stars on Amazon and Goodreads, with the following review:

Fast-paced, fun story

I thought this was a fast-paced and engaging story with two interesting lead characters and some fun sex scenes. There’s almost as much story in this novella as in many novels, but if it was padded out to a novel length, it wouldn’t be any better. I thought the drama/tension was a very plausible situation, too. And it’s nice to find an erotic millionaire story where the girl isn’t an innocent 18-year-old!

Releasing The Wolf (Eye Of The Storm Book 1)
Dianna Hardy

I gave this four stars on Amazon and Goodreads, with the following review:

Interesting and lively start to a series!

Dianna has created a very intriguing world where werewolves live in a city in the modern-day UK. Not just that, but werewolves with a rather complex natural history, and supernatural enemies. I don’t really know what else I can say without giving things away.

In summary, this is a fast-paced, intense story with some very steamy moments, and it introduces a cast of characters with a variety of sources of anxiety and tension. It’s very much the first in a series, but it ends rather like a TV drama show might, with open questions, but not a cliffhanger.

Bonus comment for blog readers: What intrigued me was the fact the story was sent in the modern-day UK, in the city of Guildford. Not exactly somewhere I'd imagine to be the haunt of supernatural creatures, but Dianna imagined it and turned it into an entertaining story!

Not Her Type: Erotic Adventures With A Delivery Man
Kay Jaybee

I gave this five stars on Amazon and Goodreads, with the following review:

Snappily told, nicely steamy

I think this is an excellent example of an erotic romance novella, and I reckon there’s as much story as in many full-length novels. This engaging tale is told from the point of view of Jenny, a single professional woman who works at home. Rather to her surprise, she gets involved in deliciously steamy, brief clinches with a man who makes weekly deliveries.

Even though she keeps on telling herself he’s just not her type, Jenny finds herself out of her emotional comfort zone and on a path of sometimes disconcerting mind games and self-discovery.

Really enjoyed it!

Wednesday on Thursday
Also by Kay Jaybee, a more recent publication

I gave this four stars on Amazon and Goodreads, with the following review:

Engaging, interesting, edgy, steamy...

This engaging story had something I’ve not found before in the erotica I’ve read.

I reckon the major relationship theme is very much “mind games”, combining a bit of a psychological mystery with some really steamy BDSM erotic scenes. And the odd one which blows the lid off the kettle...

I don’t like giving anything away which might be a “spoiler”, so there’s not a lot I can say.

The tension develops early, as Wednesday is edged out of her comfort zone, and she stays there. Interesting to have some much more idiosyncratic and flawed characters than usual, and a rather grubbier setting.

I wondered how the story would end, but genuinely hadn’t anticipated the conclusion. Almost literary, in being an end to this account which isn’t an end to the story.

Bonus comment for blog readers: This story includes MF and FF sex scenes in an edgy BDSM relationship. And the book has a great cover image which relates to the story.

Stage One: Hear
BK Bilicki

I gave this five stars on Amazon and Goodreads, with the following review:

Engaging, fast-paced and full of twists and turns

Wow. This kept me engaged from start to end, always wondering what was going to happen next. Fast-paced, full of twists and turns, and lots of saucy moments within the context of a slowly developing relationship. A cast of varied and interesting characters, blending sci-fi and magic. This is clearly the first in a series, but it doesn’t end on a cliff-hanger.

There may be some foreshadowing, but I won’t know that until BK stops teasing and gets Stage Two published!
